Felixstowe Seafront Gardens is awarded Green Flag – Again!

Felixstowe’s iconic Seafront Gardens has been awarded a coveted Green Flag for the fourth time.

The Felixstowe Seafront Gardens has been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as one of the very best in the world. The Felixstowe Seafront Gardens joins other green spaces awarded recognition in East Suffolk.

The Gardens are among a record-breaking 1,970 UK parks and green spaces and 131 in thirteen other countries around the world, that will today (Tuesday, 16 July 2019) receive a prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.

This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

Cllr Letitia Smith, East Suffolk’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Leisure and Tourism, said: “East Suffolk Council is absolutely delighted that Felixstowe’s iconic Seafront Gardens has received a Green Flag Award for the fourth year.

We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining the Felixstowe Seafront Gardens to such a high standard.

The renovation and refurbishment of the Seafront Gardens was a major investment for the Council, but it has proved money well spent.

We are committed to continuing to build on this success to help create a vibrant environment in Felixstowe for visitors and local people alike.”

Felixstowe Seafront Garden has also received the much coveted additional Green Heritage Site Accreditation for the management of the historic features.

The refurbishment of the Seafront Gardens is just one of the improvements in Felixstowe which has seen the number of visitors to the town grow by an estimated 20% since 2016.

International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “It’s fantastic that we have more Green Flag Awards in the UK than ever before, joined this year by 131 International winners.”

“Each flag honours the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award. We congratulate each and every winner on their fantastic achievement.”
