HRH Prince Philip

Posted by Town Hall Staff 09 April 2021

The Town Council has  received information from the Suffolk Lieutenancy that His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh died today (9th April).

The Union flag will fly at half-mast at the Town Hall as a mark of respect from today until the period of mourning ends following HRH Prince Philip’s funeral on Saturday 17th April.

Due to the public health situation, the Royal Family has asked members of the public to consider making a donation to a charity instead of leaving floral tributes in memory of The Duke.

A Suffolk County Church Service will take place at St Edmundsbury Cathedral on Friday 16 April at 3.30pm. See the St. Ed’s Cathedral website here for details: https://stedscathedral.org/

The Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral will take place on Saturday 17 April and will commence with a minutes  silence at 3.00pm.

An online Book of Condolence has been opened at http://www.suffolk.gov.uk/condolences.

The Council’s Civic & Community Committee meeting due to take place on Wednesday 14th April has been postponed and items deferred to the next meeting in June.

The thoughts of all Councillors and Officers are with HM The Queen and other members of the Royal Family at this time.
