Invitation to Felixstowe’s VE Day Concert, Picnic by the Sea

Felixstowe residents are invited to bring their picnics and celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day with a special event in the town.

On the Friday 8 May Bank Holiday, a free VE Day event will take place at the Beachside Events Area, Sea Road, Felixstowe, organised jointly by Felixstowe Town Council, East Suffolk Council’s Communities Team, the Royal British Legion and Felixstowe Remembers.

Felixstowe Town Council are joint funding and supporting the organisation of the event alongside East Suffolk Council, the Royal British Legion and Felixstowe Remembers.  The event is supported by funding from the East Suffolk ward councillors for Felixstowe, through their individual Enabling Communities Budgets. Cllrs Mike Deacon, Steve Gallant, Tracey Green, Mark Jepson and Steve Wiles donated towards the event.  

Running from midday to 10pm, families are welcome to bring a picnic and enjoy a free concert with 1940’s bands and dance acts, along with contemporary live music, entertainment and children’s activities.

Cllr Nick Barber, Mayor of Felixstowe said: “Felixstowe’s VE Day event will be a great celebration for our town, bringing residents and visitors together to mark this significant moment in our country’s history. The Town Council is proud to play its part in anticipation of a memorable weekend of community-led events”.

Cllr Steve Gallant, Leader of East Suffolk Council and ward member for Eastern Felixstowe said: “Friday 8 May 2020 will mark 75 years since the end of conflict in Europe as part of World War Two and communities across the country will be taking part in events, street parties and more. Along with the other district councillors for Felixstowe, I’m delighted to be supporting this VE Day event in the town which will enable local people to celebrate this important date with family and friends”.

In line with national ‘VEDay75’ celebrations, the Last Post will be played along with ‘ringing out for peace’ taking place later in the day.

Tea and cake will be provided for our veterans and those over the age of 75, by invitation, please let us know if you qualify for an invitation.
